The subculture of “Deadheads”, fanatic followers of the Grateful Dead, started in 1971 as hardcore fans became part of a mailing list intended for the distribution of tickets and information on tour dates and album releases.

However, being part of the Deadhead subculture was about much more than just being on a mailing list. Deadheads accorded great value through the act of faithfully travelling, at any means necessary, to the Grateful Dead’s many stops on a tour.
