Rocking Horse Records 40th Anniversary

Rocking Horse Records is celebrating 40 years as Brisbane’s premier independent music retailer with a huge concert event and party.

Store owner, Warwick Vere, first opened the doors to Rocking Horse Records as an ‘import record shop’ in Rowes Arcade in 1975. The shop was then on Adelaide Street for 25 years, survived through the National Party/Joh Bjelke-Petersen years and won ‘obscenity’ trials. It gradually outgrew these digs and settled into its current location on the Mall in Albert Street.

Countless artists and musicians have done a stint being employed behind the counters over the last 40 years and many more independent bands have sold their music through the store. A multi-ARIA-award-winner (Best Record Store 2005-2009, 2011 / Outstanding Physical Retail 2014), Rocking Horse has become a much-loved and enduring focal point for the Brisbane music scene.

Coming together to celebrate this milestone are:

… and more to be announced soon.

The party starts for free at 2pm in the beer garden with acoustic sets from Kristy Apps and The Shotgun Shirleys and The Floyd Family Breakdown. The doors for the ticketed main event then open from 5.30pm.
