Jodie Lawlor (Flangipanis)

Jodie Lawlor is a Brisbane-based, Mount Isa born, lovable menace.  She has been playing solo and collaborative shows since her debut in 2001, and has seen a lot of Australia touring. Jodie is best known for her role in local punk band and 4ZZZ favourites, Flangipanis, as well as folk-punk band D Rouser.

Throughout the last decade Jodie Lawlor has outgrown the simple pub rock and cafe provisions of whingey girls with acoustic guitars singing about feelings. ¬†The most notable element of Jodie’s solo performances are her colourful language, relatable anecdotes and upbeat approach to her songwriting and delivery. It is not uncommon to see a second or third performer pop up alongside to add extra vocals or harmonica riffs.

Community and crowd involvement are always a large factor for Jodie; though most punk bands‚Äîno matter how obscure or notorious‚Äîhave been providing musical influence and inspiration for many years. ¬†In short, this teenager-trapped-in-an-adults-body is boldly attempting to make the ’90s cool again, make the Australian female accent more widespread and acceptable in music, and say a big f*ck you to the snobs and bigots.
