Brisbane’s creative community are at it again, transforming bowling pins into works of art in the name of charity. Presented by Cutting Edge, the CEX bowling pin art challenge is back for its second year, and once again award-winning advertising creatives transform a unique canvas, the humble bowling pin, into fascinating pieces. Each is up for grabs, auctioned 16 October at the Triffid in Brisbane’s Newstead, with all proceeds going to Youngcare.

The bowling pin has an unmistakable shape; it’s a cultural icon steeped in nostalgia. This year’s contributors are professional artists who work in the thriving local advertising industry. 28 Artists including Creative Directors, Art Directors, Animators, VFX Artists, and Designers, offer up a fascinating collection of highly individual works.

“The Brisbane advertising scene is highly-connected with genuine friendships and a sense of camaraderie. We are a tight knit group. Also, we have some of the most impressive creatives you’ll find. The artists we approached jumped at the chance to take on this creative challenge and support Youngcare,” commented Blaize Bennett of Cutting Edge and CEX organiser.

All funds raised support the important work of Youngcare. Appropriate housing is one of the greatest areas of unmet need for people with disabilities in Australia. With 12,000 young people being left behind in aged care, hospital rooms, and rehabilitation centres, simply because there is nowhere else for them to go. CEX harnesses creativity to aid Youngcare as they tackle this important need.

“We are overwhelmed with the support of Cutting Edge and Brisbane’s creative industry. When a community comes together for a compelling cause great things can happen,” explained Anthony Ryan, Youngcare’s CEO.

He continued, “Creativity can be a very compelling tool, and when a community of professional creatives get behind a cause it’s a powerful way to ignite awareness, support and passion for a community that believes in authentic integration. We are blown away by this year’s artwork and very excited for October’s auction.”

The CEX Art Auction will be held the evening of Wednesday 16 October at the Triffid, Newstead. This event is open to the public, with all welcome to attend and bid on pin. Visit www.cuttingedge.com.au/cex to see this year’s works.
