Our Beer Garden is open for food and drinks from 12noon.

The Triffid has just turned two and is already one of Australia’s most loved live music venues for punters and artists alike.

For our first year the Triffid garden was home for the much-loved Triffid Roots we worked alongside Sarah Howells to ensure that our Sunday session was second to none.

The summer of 2016/2017 will see The Triffid re-invent our Sunday sessions.

Based on a passion for spirited acoustic music we have partnered with the Americana Association of Australia for present AMERICANA SESSIONS FREE EVERY SUNDAY IN THE TRIFFID GARDEN.

Every Sunday lovers of Folk, Country, Rhythm & Blues, Blues and Rock and Roll will be presented with some of the most respected artists around. This will all be happening in relaxed surrounds of the Triffid garden with a brand new menu for the foodies and plenty of other musical and beverage surprises.

Whether it’s rising to a new day with clear skies and a new voyage ahead or seeing the sun set from the porch to call it a day, the humble sounds of Jordan Merrick and his Bush Ballads will bring about a peace that seems to settle the birds and that evening storm.

Jordan Merrick, the Brisbane-based acoustic folk singer-songwriter is starting the year by releasing his debut single uniquely titled, ‘Untitled #1’. “Why ‘Untitled #1′ aside from preceding ‘Untitled #2?” states Jordan Merrick, “Because this song could be any one of the 7+ billion people in this world.”

Although this is his debut release Merrick had released an LP, ’Novella’ at the end of 2016 with his band Fugitive and The Vagabond; all written by himself. From the LP, the track ’The Wild’ had Jordan nominated in two categories at the Gold Coast Music Awards, ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Emerging Artist of the Year’

‘Untitled #1’ inspired by Bob Dylan’s epic ‘Blood on the Tracks’ is about humankind – its kindness and its ruthlessness. Whilst Jordan slowly finger picks away gracefully at the acoustic guitar, his vocals and lyrics entice a sense of aspiration to achieve and to be better despite the demons that can be found in anyone.

The latter half of the song almost comes to a halt where Merrick cries out, metaphor by metaphor to say that these complexities of the world and life are inherent emotions in all human-kind and reminder to take in the world that we live in.

Seen by these honest and compassionate lyrics, writing plays a huge role in Jordan Merrick’s life – drawing inspiration from Earnest Hemingway, Edgar Allan Poe and Haruki Murakami.

If not found playing guitar, he’d be rambling short stories into his families old typewriter or floating between locations with his hat and a notepad people-watching. Jordan said, “In many ways, writing has felt like therapy for the soul. Taking pieces of emotion, memories and ideas and sticking them together.”

Expect to see more from this folk singer-songwriter this year as he works towards the debut EP, expected to be released by the middle of the year.

March will see Jordan playing interstate at Music In The Vines in Victoria on March 4 and an intimate show at The Junk Bar, Brisbane March 12.

Jordan is available for interview requests, and please contact Kick Push PR to organise media passes for any of his upcoming shows.

Fronted by Jim Arneman and Flora Smith Small Town Romance have been steadily garnering a fan base of true country music lovers everywhere they play. Sharing the writing and singing duties Jim brings a love of narrative and Flora a love of melody – together they are each the others perfect musical foil. At the heart of Small Town Romance is a partnership that celebrates their unique musical backgrounds creating a sound that is more than just a sum of their parts.

The band is steeped in healthy doses of Tex-Mex, Cajun, honky tonk, blues, and some folk for good measure, but their voices are truly their own.
Small Town Romance are an act that will have you marvelling at their song-craft one minute and then dragging your partner up to two-step the next!

‘One of the records of the year’ – Michael Park, The International Americana Show, Best of 2016.

‘I need to get over my prejudice that only Americans can make good country music. It couldn’t be farther from the truth as evidenced by Small Town Romance.’ Harry Kaplan, twangri-la.com
