“it’s fair to say that the adoration for alae has truly ignited” – Under the Radar NZ

“We first came across New Zealand trio Alae at BIGSOUND this year, caught by their captivating stage presence, and an irresistible batch of music” – The AU Review

a sprawling, strikingly confident display” – RollingStone Australia

Since achieving international recognition from and for hit singles “Too Strung Up“, “Stone Cold” and their latest “All Gived Up“, as well as amassing over 3 million Spotify streams for their releases to date, Alae is now set to release their debut album Henry St on October 26th

Featuring 12 tracks, Henry St was recorded at The Lab Recording Studio in Mt Eden, NZ, the inspirations were broad and took influence from both new and old. “It’s a collaboration of Alex’s prolific songwriting (Back in Town was written when Alex was 16, boarding at Nelson College), and Allister’s background in both classical and jazz piano. We tried to make the album as cohesive as possible, writing new songs to fit in places where it didn’t flow.” – Allister Meffan

The album is the culmination of 7 years of collaboration between Allister and Alex, but recently introducing bassist Marika Hodgson and drummer Jayden Lee into the fold meant their sound quickly developed as Allister explains, “having Jayden and Marika to add life to the band aspect had changed our sound completely too. New life got brought back into songs we’d left unfinished. We’re really stoked with the finished product”.

Sharing their sound both at home and abroad is a priority for Alae in 2018. The now four piece have kicked off the year with high profile local live slots with the Blackbird Ensemble, support of Australia’s John Butler Trio and a national tour with Nomad. The band plans to further extend their reach into local and offshore territories with the release of their debut album Henry St this October which will be supported by a national tour, presented by ZM.
