The Sunburys (acoustic)

The Sunburys are a gutsy soul-rock three-piece from Brisbane. Featuring Anthony Dettori (guitar, vocals), Scott Lapthorne (drums, percussion) and Derek Haas (bass, backing vocals), The Sunburys are deft songsmiths and spirited performers—musicians of craft and character who rank substance over style and integrity over celebrity. The Sunburys’ no-nonsense attitude is evident on their three albums: Here Comes the Sunburys (2009), Swings & Roundabouts (2010) and Keep a Lid on It (2012)—all dripping in energy, attitude and intelligence; all acclaimed by discerning critics.

The Sunburys understand the simple timelessness of a great rock riff and the unpretentious appeal of an honest story. They can wear the pub rock moniker with pride (with You Am I being a regular comparison), but connoisseurs will detect that the band draw from a diverse range of musical traditions, with elements of folk, jazz, Americana and alt-country also influencing each album’s journey. For people who dig oldschool rock, the British Invasion bands and their kindred, and songwriters of substance.
